Day 33 – Vancouver, WA to Portland, OR

Today, I finished my walk across Washington state. Summer mission complete.

HUGE bow of gratitude to ALL who helped me across all 300ish miles from the Canadian to the Oregon border.

(Blogs of all 33 days aren’t yet complete, and as the school year has just begun, they’ll only slowly trickle in. My personal FB page, however, still does have more posts and details across each walking day sans blog…)

Catching Up With Blogs…

NOTE: I’m days behind on the most recent blog updates.

My best blogs take me hours to both arrange the proper photos and to write. My walking days are usually pretty packed with both on-road activities and off-road responsibilities. Some of the most recent blogs are simply photo reels, with little-to-no narration. I do plan on updating all blogs to reflect each day’s walk across Washington, but unfortunately, this won’t happen overnight.

For now, if you wish to see some of my most recent updates, feel free to check out the public posts on my Facebook page:

I update my Facebook pretty much every day that I do walk, usually as I’m walking.

Take care!

Day 16 – Tukwila to Federal Way

At the invitation of a wonderful family of friends, I had the privilege of using their Capitol Hill condo in Seattle the past five nights. Last night, though, I had already made it as far as Tukwila though; it’s time to move on. I reached Federal Way on foot this evening, and will spend both tonight and tomorrow night at the Federal Way home of my stepmother’s sister, who lives there with two of my grown cousins. Tomorrow, I’ll depart from here for Tacoma.
Here are several pics from today’s walk between Tukwila and Federal Way. I spent most of the day on 99–the Pacific Highway, passing the Seattle-Tacoma airport in the process.

Day 16 BRANCH Tukwila-Federal Way

BRANCH: After leaving the Capitol Hill condo this morning, I decided to add a branch to my path: I walked many additional blocks within Seattle–including to where I once worked, across the street from the funny-shaped, downtown Seattle Public Library. I connected this branch of blocks to my path through Washington (a portion of Seattle I walked days ago), before returning to yesterday’s stopping point, in Tukwila, and proceeding south on my route from there.

Day 15 – Seattle to Tukwila

Today, it was time to progress into Seattle’s southern suburbs. There were multiple ways to accomplish this, and even after first scouting out some possibilities with my support vehicle, I only ended up crossing some options off the list, but still remained unsure of my exact path for the day, as I began walking. The route ended up being more circuitous than anticipated, but when I saw that one possible route was taking me remotely near Kubota Garden, I went out of the way to walk to and through it.

Day 14 – Space Needle to Mariners’ Stadium, Seattle

My wife and daughter spent a long weekend visiting me in Seattle, and it was really tough to see them go early this evening. I hadn’t planned on walking, but throwing the uniform on and taking steps forward felt like the perfect remedy to the down state I was feeling in their absence. So, I walked the Seattle waterfront, to the south side of downtown. I met a handful of fun folks along the way.
